New Strait Times melapurkan kemalangan jalan raya menampilkan kehilangan 8 Bilion ringgit setahun. Kehilangan nyawa akibat kemalangan jalan raya melebihi 6000 nyawa setahun. Statisitk dalam jumlah wang dan nyawa yang hilang yang dilapur menunjukkan jumlah yang amat besar dan wajib ditangani dengan segera.

Apakah kaedah-kaedah yang hendak diambil dalam menangani permasalahan ini? Berdasarkan pengamatan dan sedikit pengetahuan dalam bidang keselamatan, penulis berpendapat pihak yang terlibat dari kalangan individu, masyarakat dan kerajaan hendaklah mengambil tindakan segera. Mulai saat ini.

Apakah yang boleh dilakukan oleh pihak individu? Sudah tentu beberapa tindakan segera boleh dilakukan. Pertama pilihan warna pada kenderaan dan pakaian hendaklah terang. Pantulan warna yang terang akan cepat mendapat tindakan segera daripada pengguna kenderaan yang lain. Kedua, pencarian ilmu dalam mengendalikan kenderaan agar pemanduan yang cekap dan selamat. Lebih-lebih lagi terhadap mereka yang memakai kenderaan yang mempunyai kelajuan super. Pengetahuan menilai panorama jalan seperti simpang, bukit dan selekoh hendaklah juga di dalami. Berupaya menangani suasana yang tidak terjangka seperti suasana sibuk dan suasana cuaca yang tidak menentu penting difahami agar mudah menangani sebarang situasi. Penilaian yang tepat berdasaran ilmu kepada keadaan yang dinyatakan sudah pasti dapat mengurangkan kemalangan. Keadaan kenderaan juga hendaklah diambil kira seperti sistem 'brake', keadaan bunga tayar, tekanan tayar, keadaan lampu, lampu isyarat kiri dan kanan dan sebagainya.

Apakah pula yang boleh dilakukan oleh masyarakat? Masyarakat yang perihatin lahir dari kesedaran dengan pendedahan situasi yang dahsyat ini. Usaha hendaklah sentiasa diberi seperti kempen kesedaran. Pelaksanaan latihan-latihan secara kelompok megikut sasaran. Kempen pemandu yang membawa kenderaan yang besar hendaklah peka dan bertimbang rasa kepada kenderaan kecil. Kaedah ini menjadi lebih praktikal dan lebih berjaya dalam menangani kemalangan. Terdapat negara yang mengamalkan undang-undang jalan raya yang mirip dengan kaedah ini. Negara berkenaan lebih dapat menangani kadar kemalangan jalan raya.

Apakah pula peranan kerajaan? Sudah tentu mengenai polisi. Polisi yang baik akan dapat menangani permasalahan ini. Penguatkuasaan juga penting. Kaedah ini terbukti berjaya dikebanyakan negara. Kempen-kempen yang melibatkan kerajaan sudah pasti akan dapat memberi kejayaan. Keadaan jalan raya juga di bawah penjanggaan kerajaan. Jalan raya yang baik dan selesa pasti akan dapat mengelakkan kemalangan yang tidak diduga. Jelas peranan kerajaan amat penting dalam hal ini.

Pada masa akan datang gandingan hebat antara individu, masyarakat dan kerajaan diyakini akan dapat mengurangkan kadar kemalangan jalanraya ketahap zero kemalangan.
