5 Important Thing to Consider of Material Removal Process in Machining

In modern world, we as an engineer cannot run to take part in producing product. Most product produced will go through the process of machining either as a direct producing product or as producing mold of the product. Therefore, to form the product, material remover process is the must. The most famous in material removal process in machining are using milling and turning.

Production engineer who will involve in the process must consider the 5 important things in material removal process. So, they can guide the operator or milling and turning machine programmer. Sometime in current situation, engineer himself will act as designer, milling programmer or operator. Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided Machining (CAM) are widely used.

5 Important Thing to Consider of Material Removal Process in Machining.

1.How chips are produced during machining. If you see the continuous chips during machining shows that you are producing a product with a good surface finish, basically you apply steady cutting forces.

2.Factors involved in temperature rise and its effects. This not good since it will affect the tool and product. Your tool life becomes short and thermal damage to the workpiece's surface will affect the surface finish.

3.How cutting tools wear and fail. Normally tool wear will influence surface finish and integrity, dimensional of product, temperature rise, forces, and power. The machine bed will vibrate where the vibration is the most unwanted element in machining.

4.Surface finish and integrity of parts produced by machining. The surface finish and integrity will tell thousands of stories. As you go along, many things involved such as cutting speed, depth of cut, feed, cutting fluid, workpiece material, and tooling material.

5.Machinability of materials. The concept of hard material can cut softer material is always applied in the material removal process. Machinability must relate to tool life, surface finish, forces and power, and type of chip.

When you go long to the process, the best practice always goes by doing. Therefore, you must do then you know how applied knowledge through reading or training will support the application of material removal processes such as using milling or turning. A high-quality product will be produced to enhance competitive products.
